Thrissur district faced a near-total shutdown on Thursday as trade unions' 24-hour nationwide strike gained massive support. Schools, businesses, and offices remained shut. Public transport, including autorickshaws, taxis, and Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses, stayed off the roads. The strike was mostly peaceful but saw minor tensions where activists forced some establishments to close. In Kodungalloor, pro-strike supporters made a petrol pump stop its operations after it opened in the morning. Along Thrissur’s coastal belt, the shutdown was complete, and commercial activities stopped. In Guruvayur, the strike hit hard as devotees visiting the Sreekrishna temple struggled without bus services. Many shops and restaurants were closed, causing difficulties in accessing food and water. The temple’s ‘Prasada Oottu’ helped many devotees in need. Trade unions held protest marches and meetings throughout the day. They strongly opposed the Centre’s labour policies and urged for wider support and unity among workers.
