ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has raised alarm over the health of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, claiming he lost 85% vision in his right eye due to medical neglect in jail. A health report submitted to the Supreme Court shows his condition worsened by denied medical tests and delayed hospital visits. PTI leaders demand urgent treatment and freedom for Khan's personal doctors to attend to him. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi called the situation "alarming," accusing jail authorities of ignoring Imran's repeated health complaints and delaying care. PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said the hospital visit only happened 10 days after eyesight loss and condemned the treatment as unprecedented in Pakistan's history. Imran Khan's son, Kasim Khan, blamed solitary confinement and medical neglect for his father's vision loss. He criticized the government and army leadership for ongoing mistreatment and claimed family members are still denied visas to visit him. Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP) leader Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar and other opposition figures have called the report "deeply alarming," urging access for family and doctors. However, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar rejected PTI's claims. Posting on X, he stated the report disproves allegations of mistreatment and highlights Khan's special facilities and rich diet in jail. He said the PTI narrative "has fallen flat on its face." The Supreme Court now faces pressure to respond as PTI leaders warn public anger could rise if medical neglect continues or worsens. Published in Dawn, February 13th, 2026.
