On February 12, Lokayukta officials raided 29 locations tied to four government officers across Karnataka. The searches took place in Bengaluru, Davangere, and Dharwad linked to disproportionate assets cases. The officers under investigation are H. M. Janardhana, Superintendent Engineer at Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society; Arjun R. H., Assistant Executive Engineer (Civil) at BESCOM, Davangere; Purushotham Das Hegade, Executive Engineer at Public Works Department; and Somalingappa Fakkirappa Siddanagoudar, Survey Supervisor at Assistant Director Land Records’ Office, Dharwad. The Lokayukta says assets worth ₹23.76 crore have been uncovered. Purushotham Das Hegade had the highest assets worth ₹11.29 crore, including a site, two houses, two educational institutes, 11 acres 30 guntas of agricultural land, ₹44.23 lakh cash, gold and silver ornaments worth ₹60.79 lakh, and fixed deposits of ₹27 lakh. Notably, ₹1.70 crore cash was seized from the flat of Sujay Shetty, a friend of H. M. Janardhana, after searches at six locations connected to Janardhana. A Lokayukta official said, "In connection with the disproportionate assets case registered against Janardhana, searches were conducted at six locations. During the search, cash amounting to ₹1.70 crore was found at the flat of his friend, Sujay Shetty." Janardhana owns a site, three houses, 34 acres of agricultural land, gold and silver ornaments worth ₹7.08 lakh, vehicles valued at ₹20 lakh, and other valuables worth ₹60 lakh. His total assets stand at ₹2.57 crore. The case highlights the Lokayukta's crackdown on illegal wealth accumulation among public officers in Karnataka.
