The first results of the Telangana Municipal Elections 2026 show Congress in a strong lead. Out of 448 Wards declared by 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Congress candidates won 240 seats. The main opposition party, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), performed well with 140 Wards. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), expected to gain, won only 37 Wards so far. Independent candidates won in 14 Wards. Other parties include AIFB with 6, AIMIM with 1, and CPI (M) with 1 seat. Twelve candidates won uncontested. Voting was held on Tuesday in 2,569 Wards across 116 Municipalities and in 412 Wards across seven Municipal Corporations. Counting started at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, with results arriving from 10:00 a.m. Returning Officers awarded election certificates to winners as results came in. In Mahabubnagar’s Devarakadri Municipality, Congress claimed 6 out of 12 Wards, BRS got 4, BJP 1, and 1 went to an independent candidate.
