A 5.6-magnitude earthquake shook an area 86 kilometres northeast of Khuzdar in Balochistan early Friday morning. The quake struck at 6:30am, reaching a depth of 13 km, according to Pakistan Meteorological Department's National Seismic Monitoring Centre. Earlier at 5:52am, a smaller 3.8-magnitude quake hit 75 km southeast of Khuzdar at a depth of 33 km. People in multiple districts felt the tremors. Sindh districts including Sukkur, Qambar, Shahdadkot, and Dadu reported shaking. Balochistan districts like Jhal Magsi, Jaffarabad, and Nasirabad also felt the impact. Last month, a 5.8-magnitude earthquake jolted areas such as Gilgit-Baltistan, Peshawar, and nearby Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa regions. Pakistan lies on three major tectonic plates—the Arabian, Euro-Asian, and Indian—which form five seismic zones. This complex fault line intersection causes frequent earthquakes. In October 2025, a 5.0-magnitude quake was recorded in Quetta, showing the region’s ongoing seismic activity.
