Nagaland Deputy CM Urges Peace After Violence in Maova Village Near Dimapur
February 13, 2026
Yanthungo Patton, the Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, expressed deep concern over recent violence and arson in Maova village near Dimapur. On February 13, 2026, clashes broke out between Naga and Kuki communities around Dimapur's outskirts. Police told The Hindu the clashes are "local issues" and unrelated to the ongoing Manipur conflict. Mr. Patton took to X, writing, "Any act that disrupts peace and endangers lives and property is a matter of serious concern." He appealed for peace, urging the people to "remain calm, exercise restraint, and allow lawful and constructive processes to address any grievances." Nearby, in Manipur's Ukhrul district, violence between Naga and Kuki-Zo groups has also flared, prompting a five-day internet shutdown starting February 10. On that day, miscreants allegedly set fire to nine to ten houses in the district’s Litan area, heightening tensions between the communities. The Nagaland government remains watchful and calls for peaceful solutions amid the region’s social strains.
