Trump Repeals Key Climate Rule; Kerry Calls Move 'Un-American' and 'Orwellian'
February 13, 2026
The Trump administration has revoked the EPA's core scientific finding that greenhouse gases endanger public health. This rule, known as the Endangerment Finding, gave the government power since 2009 to limit pollution from cars, power plants, and industries. President Donald Trump called this "the single largest deregulatory action in American history." He told reporters, "This is a big one if you’re into environment. This is about as big as it gets." Critics say this move favors "billionaire polluters" and harms Americans' health. Former President Barack Obama said on social media the repeal will leave people "less safe, less healthy and less able to fight climate change – all so the fossil fuel industry can make even more money." Former Secretary of State John Kerry called the rule change "un-American" and said, "Repealing the Endangerment Finding takes Orwellian governance to new heights and invites enormous damage to people and property around the world." Kerry added, "Ignoring warning signs will not stop the storm. It puts more Americans directly in its path." This repeal is part of Trump's broader effort to rollback environmental rules and boost oil and gas industries.
