Kerala's Revenue Minister, K. Rajan, said the state government will create a special policy to meet the needs of children with disabilities and their families. He spoke at the opening of 'Thillana-2026,' the 7th State-level Buds Arts Festival, held at Kerala Agricultural University in Vellanikkara on Friday. Rajan said differently abled children have great creative talents and can succeed when given proper support. "However, such children and their families often face multiple challenges and hardships. Ensuring equal justice and opportunities for all sections of society remains a key priority of the government," he stated. Kudumbashree, an organization working for social upliftment, provides day care, training, and development support for children with intellectual disabilities. More than 14,000 children benefit from 405 Buds institutions across Kerala. Rajan also praised Kudumbashree’s role in helping victims during Kerala's recent natural disasters. He called the Buds Arts Festival a milestone in bringing children with intellectual disabilities into mainstream society. District Panchayat President Mary Thomas, who presided over the event, said the festival is an important platform for these children to grow and show their creative skills. Kudumbashree Executive Director H. Dineshan explained that the festival’s goal is to give Buds institution children the same chances as those in mainstream schools.
