Palestine Action Wins High Court Battle Against UK Ban

The co-founder of Palestine Action has won a major legal challenge against the UK home secretary's decision to ban the group under anti-terrorism laws. Palestine Action was the first direct action protest group to be banned, a move that sparked widespread criticism. Despite the ban, activists carried on a civil disobedience campaign. Over 2,000 people were arrested during these protests. Since July last year, being a member of or supporting Palestine Action was considered a criminal offense, punishable by up to 14 years in prison. Guardian columnist Owen Jones spoke about the court victory with Lucy Hough. The ruling reverses the ban and ends the threat of heavy jail terms for protesters.
