Maharashtra SEC Suspends Polling Officer, Constable for Allowing Minor Inside Polling Booth
February 14, 2026
The Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) has ordered the suspension of a polling officer and a police constable in Solapur. They allowed a 14-year-old boy to enter a polling booth with his father, who is a candidate in the Zilla Parishad election. A video that went viral showed the boy pressing the EVM button next to his father at the Yashwant Nagar polling station in Akluj on February 7, 2026. The father is NCP (SP) candidate Arjun Sinh Mohite Patil. The SEC said in a letter on February 10 that letting a child inside the polling booth breaks election rules. After a preliminary inquiry, the SEC found negligence by polling officer Anna Savata Budhe and police constable Gajanan Sitaram Rajut, who were on duty at the booth. Both officials have been suspended immediately. The SEC has also started departmental disciplinary proceedings against them and asked the Solapur district administration to send a detailed compliance report soon. Furthermore, an FIR was registered related to the case, naming candidate Mohite-Patil. The SEC directed the collector to provide a factual report on the FIR status and any further actions. The incident raises serious concerns over election rule violations during the February 2026 Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections.
