The death toll from a serious accident on the M9 Motorway near Karachi has risen to 13. A child, injured in the crash, died while being treated at Civil Hospital, Karachi. The child's body was moved to Edhi Home cold storage in Sohrab Goth by an Edhi ambulance. The Edhi Foundation also took 12 other victims' bodies to their hometown in Kotri, Sindh. The crash happened near Ansari Bridge close to DHA City. An oil tanker hit a passenger bus. Police and Rescue 1122 first reported many casualties. Later, Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed confirmed 12 deaths and six injuries initially. Rescue teams faced tough conditions. A large oil spill on the motorway made fire a big risk. To prevent sparks, they avoided electrical tools and cut vehicles by hand to save victims. Police differ on the accident's cause. Malir police say the bus went the wrong way and crashed with the oil tanker traveling to Karachi. The impact flipped the tanker onto a van. Motorway police say a tyre burst on the tanker first. Rescue 1122's Hassaanul Haseeb Khan said four vehicles were involved: an oil tanker, a passenger bus, a van, and a goods trailer. Federal Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan has ordered an immediate inquiry and a detailed report from the motorway inspector general.
