Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially shifted his office to the new Seva Teerth complex near Raisina Hill on February 13, 2026. This move ended nearly eight decades of the Prime Minister’s Office functioning from the colonial-era South Block. PM Modi arrived in a motorcade with Union ministers Manohar Lal and Jitendra Singh and senior officials to inaugurate the new workspace. The shift happened on the 95th anniversary of New Delhi’s formal inauguration as India’s capital in 1931. "Seva Teerth" means a sacred place of service, symbolizing a shift from power to responsibility, officials told PTI. In posts on X, PM Modi said: “With an unwavering resolve to serve the people of India and guided by the sacred spirit of Nagrikdevo Bhava, Seva Teerth is humbly dedicated to the nation. May Seva Teerth always stand as a radiant symbol of duty, compassion, commitment to the principle of India First.” Seva Teerth’s architecture draws from Karnataka temples of the Chalukya period and Buddhist stupas. Part of the Central Vista Project, it combines pmO, Cabinet Secretariat, and National Security Council in one campus. The buildings use white and red sandstone, with metal domes inspired by Buddha stupas. The entrance features stone carvings from ancient temple designs. Key features of the complex include digitally integrated offices, public interaction zones, central reception, collaboration facilities, smart access controls, surveillance, and emergency response systems. The site is built as a green, environmentally sustainable campus meeting four-star green standards. Seva Teerth, together with the Kartavya Bhavan buildings, marks a major upgrade in government workspace, merging tradition with modern efficiency and security.
