KARACHI: The death count from the multi-vehicle crash on the M9 Motorway rose to 13 on Saturday. Police registered a first information report (FIR) under charges including unintentional murder. Dr Mohammed Sabir Memon, executive director of the trauma centre at Civil Hospital, said six injured people were admitted Friday evening. Sadly, a six-year-old boy died during treatment. One patient has been discharged and four remain hospitalized, one in critical condition. The Edhi Foundation spokesperson noted that 12 victims belonged to the same family. Gadap Police Station HO Sarfraz Jatoi told Dawn that four vehicles were involved. The drivers of an oil tanker and a Hilux pickup died on the spot. The trailer’s driver was released after initial inquiry. The driver of a passenger van escaped the scene. The tanker driver was found driving rashly, first hitting the trailer. This caused the tanker and trailer to lose control and collide with the Hilux pickup and the passenger van, both going the wrong way. Police said the tanker had no fitness certificate, and its driver lacked a licence. The passenger van also lacked route permits, fitness certificates, and had past fines. The FIR backs these details, including witness reports and vehicle examinations.
