Bank Assistant Manager Arrested for Stealing 2.7 Kg Gold in Bengaluru for Online Betting
February 14, 2026
The assistant manager of Indian Bank's Girinagar branch in Bengaluru was arrested for stealing nearly 2.7 kg of gold from customer lockers. The accused, 34-year-old Kiran Kumar, used his access to locker keys to siphon gold while the branch manager was away. The theft occurred in small amounts over time, hidden in 21 packets.
The fraud surfaced on January 2 when customers found discrepancies during locker verification. Part of the gold was missing in 21 packets and fully missing in three, totaling 2,783 grams worth about ₹4 crore. Kiran Kumar confessed during an internal inquiry. He pawned the stolen gold at different shops and used the money for online betting and gambling.
A police case was registered at Girinagar Police Station. Officers arrested Kiran Kumar and recovered approximately 1.2 kg of gold. Efforts continue to find the rest, but financiers are uncooperative. Police plan to seek court help to recover the remaining gold.
DCP Lokesh B. Jagalsar urged bank customers to regularly check their valuables in lockers and deposits to prevent such frauds.
