Andhra Pradesh Budget 2026-27: ₹32,308 Crore for School Education with Major Upgrades and AI Plans
February 14, 2026
Andhra Pradesh's School Education Department gets a massive ₹32,308 crore in the 2026-27 state budget. Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav announced this on Saturday. Out of this, ₹1,500 crore is for upgrading public school infrastructure. The Higher Education Department will receive ₹2,567 crore, and ₹1,232 crore is set for Skill Development and Training. HRD Minister Nara Lokesh focuses on outcome-based programs to prep students for the global stage.
The TDP-led coalition blasted the earlier YSRCP government (2019-2024) for disruptions in public education. They said the 'hasty CBSE transition' of 1,000 govt schools caused nearly 90% student failures. The TOEFL program failed due to unprepared teachers. Funds were also wasted on an unrealistic IB curriculum.
Finance Minister Keshav pointed out that ₹7,876 crore worth of infrastructure works were left incomplete under the last government. Since June 2024, the coalition started reforms including Talliki Vandanam (₹9,668 crore), Mana Badi Mana Bhavishyathu (₹1,500 crore), Dokka Seethamma Mid-Day Meal (₹2,161 crore), PM Schools for Rising India (₹707 crore), and Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Vidyardhi Mitra (₹654 crore).
Other priorities include sanitation, curriculum updates, digital learning, teacher training, and governance changes. Through Mega DSC-2025, 15,941 teachers were hired to fill vacancies in government schools. The plan also involves renovating schools, finishing incomplete projects, upgrading tribal residential schools, and introducing AI-based learning tools.
To follow the National Education Policy 2020, Andhra Pradesh will launch AI-driven curriculum and digital literacy under the LEAP (Learning Excellence in Andhra Pradesh) program. The government is reorganizing school complexes by merging smaller schools to improve resource use and efficiency. These steps aim to restore parents’ trust in public schools and lower dropout rates by creating a modern, safe learning environment.
