Saketh Sreenivasaiah, a 22-year-old Indian student from Karnataka studying at the University of California, Berkeley, was found dead in the US after being missing for days. He disappeared on February 9, 2026. On February 14, the Indian Consulate in San Francisco confirmed the discovery of his body. "The Consulate deeply regrets to inform that local police have confirmed the recovery of the body of the missing Indian student, Saketh Sreenivasaiah," the statement said. The consulate extended condolences and said it "stands ready to provide all necessary assistance to the family, including coordination with local authorities and arrangements for the repatriation of mortal remains to India at the earliest." They also added, "Our consular officers are in direct contact with the family and will support them with all required formalities and services." Saketh was enrolled in a Master of Science program at UC Berkeley. Earlier reports said his backpack containing his passport and laptop was found on a doorstep in the Park Hills neighbourhood. Local police had appealed for any information about him. The Indian mission is now helping the family with all necessary steps.
