Tamil Nadu to Release 2nd Economic Survey Ahead of 2026-27 Budget Presentation
February 15, 2026
The Tamil Nadu government is set to release its second Economic Survey on Monday, February 16, 2026. This comes one day before the 2026-27 interim budget is presented in the Assembly. The survey is prepared by the State Planning Commission, with significant input from the State Finance Department. Multiple contributors have added articles to this edition, which may feature a chapter on women's participation in the economy.
Currently, the Centre has not announced the estimated growth rate for 2025-26. From 2012-13 to 2023-24, Tamil Nadu's economy grew at an average real rate of 6.37%, surpassing the national average of 6.1%. In 2024-25, the State's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) grew at 11.2%, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s handbook on Indian States.
The Union Finance Ministry’s recent Economic Survey placed India's real economic growth at 7.4%. Experts expect Tamil Nadu’s growth rate for the current year to be higher, possibly reaching double digits. It remains uncertain if the state will beat its 2024-25 record. Over the last 20 years, Tamil Nadu's growth rate has mostly been above the national average.
This Economic Survey will provide crucial insights ahead of the interim budget, giving a clear picture of the state's strong economic position and future prospects.
