Ghana Wants Russian 'Pick-Up Artist' Extradited for Secretly Filming Women
February 15, 2026
Ghana has requested the extradition of a Russian man accused of secretly filming women during sexual encounters and sharing the videos online without their permission. The man, described by African and Russian media as a self-styled "pick-up artist" and online blogger in his thirties, used camera-fitted sunglasses to record the encounters, according to media reports. Ghana’s technology minister, Sam George, confirmed discussions with the Russian ambassador in Accra, seeking Moscow’s help to bring the man to justice. An initial investigation suggests the suspect has likely left Ghana. "The actions of the Russian citizen flout our cyber-security laws," said George. He added, "That gentleman will be looked for, we will activate every resource in our disposal working with Interpol." Russia rarely extradites its citizens except in extreme cases, so Ghana may try the suspect in absentia. Similar illegal acts by the same man have been reported in Kenya. Ghana’s Cybersecurity Act 2020 punishes those who share explicit images without consent with up to 25 years in prison. Ghana has recently increased enforcement against online abuse, including sexual extortion and revenge porn. In 2022, a man was sentenced to 14 years for sharing nude images without consent under these laws. The government continues to strengthen laws and law enforcement to fight such online crimes.
