12 Palestinians Killed in Israeli Airstrikes Amid Ceasefire Violations by Hamas
February 15, 2026
At least 12 Palestinians were killed and several injured on Sunday in Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip. The Israeli military said the strikes were a response to ceasefire violations by Hamas. The Gaza civil defence agency reported that five people died and several were hurt in a strike targeting a tent sheltering displaced people in Jabaliya, a northern city. Another five were killed in a separate airstrike in Khan Younis, in southern Gaza. One person died after Israeli shelling in Gaza City, and another was killed by Israeli gunfire in Beit Lahia.
Hazem Qassem, a Hamas spokesperson in Gaza, called the attacks a new “massacre” against displaced Palestinians and said it was a serious breach of the ceasefire just days before the first meeting of Donald Trump’s Board of Peace.
Despite a US-brokered truce effective from 10 October, violence continues between Israel and Hamas, with each accusing the other of breaking the agreement. Hospitals in Gaza confirmed receiving at least seven bodies from these attacks.
Osama Abu Askar, who lost his nephew in the Jabaliya attack, told Agence France-Presse, “Israel doesn’t understand ceasefires or truces. The people killed there were hit as they slept. We’ve been living under a truce for months and they’ve still targeted us. Israel operates on this principle – saying one thing and doing another.”
Groups of mourners gathered at Nasser hospital to pray over the bodies of the victims.
An Israeli military official said the strikes targeted armed terrorists who violated the ceasefire by crossing the “yellow line,” a zone set by the truce, near Israeli troops. The official said this was a clear ceasefire violation by Hamas.
Israel has moved the yellow line deeper into Gaza despite the deal, and Hamas has refused demands to disarm. Israel warned it may have to force Hamas to lay down weapons.
Since the truce began, Gaza’s health ministry reports at least 601 Palestinians killed, while Israel says four of its soldiers have died.
