Mahasivaratri was celebrated with great devotion on Sunday across Chittoor, Annamayya, and Sri Sathya Sai districts. Large groups of devotees gathered at Siva temples from early morning and continued visiting till late night for darshan and special pujas. In Chittoor, many worshippers visited the Moghileswara Swamy temple on the Chittoor-Bengaluru highway. Rituals like ‘Rudrabhishekam and Maha Abhishekam’ were held all day. Temples near Kaigal Falls, Mallappakonda hill, and the Bugga Ramalingeswara Swamy temple in Nagari saw steady crowds. Devotees took part in the night-long ‘jagarana’ prayers. To control the crowd, authorities set up barricades and queue lines. In Annamayya district, temples in Rayachoti and Madanapalle divisions had good turnout. Key temples included Mallaiahkonda and Veerabhadra Swamy. ‘Ekadasa Rudrabhishekam’, Vedic chanting, and food offerings (annadanam) were organized. Separate queues helped women and senior citizens. In Sri Sathya Sai district, Doddeswara Swamy, Siddheswara Swamy at Hemavathi, and Veerabhadra Swamy temples were busy with devotees. APSRTC ran extra buses to temple towns. Traffic diversions and parking plans helped avoid jams. Officials said the festival passed peacefully.
