FBI Searches for Nancy Guthrie; DNA Evidence Found, $100K Reward Offered
February 15, 2026
The search for Nancy Guthrie, 84, mother of NBC Today anchor Savannah Guthrie, has entered its third week. She vanished on January 31 in Catalina Foothills, Arizona. Nancy was last seen after dinner with her daughter and son-in-law. She missed a planned visit to a friend's house the next day, sparking a missing person report.
Authorities are treating the case as a kidnapping. So far, no arrests have been made.
Doorbell camera footage from Nancy's home shows a masked person carrying a backpack and what looks like a holstered handgun on February 1 early morning. The FBI says the suspect is a male about 5'9" to 5'10" tall with an average build.
Law enforcement asks neighbors within two miles to share any video from January 1 to February 2 that shows people, cars, or anything unusual.
Last week, police searched a home and a car near Nancy’s residence but made no arrests. A man detained earlier was released after questioning.
Blood found on Nancy’s front porch tested positive for her DNA. More DNA evidence from her property does not match Nancy or close contacts and is being tested. Gloves found near her home are also under lab analysis.
The FBI increased the reward for information leading to her return or arrests to $100,000. Since February 1, over 13,000 public tips have been received.
There are unconfirmed reports of ransom notes sent to local TV stations and TMZ.
Savannah Guthrie and her siblings posted videos asking for public help in finding their mother.
Arizona State Rep. Alma Hernandez criticized podcasters and journalists who she said are hindering the investigation.
The Pima County sheriff’s office has no news conferences planned at this time.
