UK Doctor Warns Children ‘Weaponised’ by Social Media in Gender Healthcare Debate
February 16, 2026
Dr. Hilary Cass, the British doctor who reviewed NHS gender healthcare for children, says social media has "weaponised" young people on gender issues. The NHS brought big changes, including a ban on puberty blockers after her report. Speaking on BBC's Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg, Baroness Cass said some children will "never be comfortable" with their biological sex. She added, "For them, a medical pathway is the only way they’re going to live their life comfortably." She explained that while this is not fully understood, it is important to help these young people thrive just like those who will "grow out of this." Cass also noted that "people at the extremes" have caused a lot of distress among youngsters. She welcomed a recent draft from Britain’s Department for Education but said it cannot be "completely foolproof."
