Election Commission Suspends 7 West Bengal Officials Over Voter List Misconduct
February 16, 2026
The Election Commission has suspended seven officials in West Bengal with immediate effect. They were assistant electoral registration officers. The EC found them guilty of serious misconduct, dereliction of duty, and misuse of statutory powers during the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voters' list. These officers help update voter lists and assist in elections. They are state government employees working on deputation for the EC. The poll body has told State Chief Secretary Nandini Chakravarty to start disciplinary proceedings against these officials without delay. The Commission wants to be informed about the progress. The EC and West Bengal's Trinamool Congress government have been clashing over the ongoing voter list revision.
