Pakistan Condemns Israel's Move to Register West Bank Lands as State Property
February 16, 2026
Pakistan on Monday condemned Israel’s recent step to register large parts of the occupied West Bank as “state property.” The Foreign Office called on the international community to reject this move. Al Jazeera reported that Israel approved a plan to claim West Bank lands as state property if Palestinians cannot prove ownership. This sparked protests from Hamas, the Palestinian presidency, and political experts. Pakistan said, “Pakistan strongly condemns the latest attempt by the Israeli occupying power to convert areas of the Occupied West Bank into so-called state property, and to expand illegal settlement activities.” The statement said these actions violate international law and UN resolutions. It added, “They must be rejected by the international community.” Pakistan warned that Israel’s illegal acts hurt peace prospects in the region. “Pakistan calls on the international community to take concrete measures to end Israeli impunity, and ensure respect for international law,” it said. The Foreign Office confirmed full support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the creation of an “independent, viable, and contiguous State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.” Most Palestinian lands lack formal registration because Israel stopped the process in 1967. Official registration secures ownership. International law forbids an occupying power from taking land in occupied areas. Hamas called the move an attempt “to steal and Judaise lands in the occupied West Bank.” Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz defended it as an “essential security and governance measure” to control the area, reported the Jerusalem Post.
