A booth-level officer (BLO) named Ali Saheb was seriously injured during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in West Bengal's Nadia district. On February 15, 2026, Mr. Saheb visited a village in the Kaliganj area to verify "logical discrepancies" in voter data. He informed a resident, Alifa Bibi, and her husband, Ayatullah Sheikh, that they needed to attend a special hearing to correct their documents. According to the police, the BLO was attacked after telling Alifa Bibi about the hearing needed to fix an age difference inconsistency between her daughter and Sheikh. The BLO said, “When the BLO pleaded helplessness in personally resolving the issue and said the only way out would be EC's intervention to call a special hearing session for the family, all of a sudden, Sheikh allegedly hit the BLO with a stick, which led to heavy bleeding from his head.” The injured BLO underwent medical treatment and received several stitches. However, Sheikh denied the assault and filed a counter-complaint accusing the BLO of misbehaviour. Police said, "The man has denied the allegations and claimed that the BLO was harassing his family. We have received a counter-complaint as well." Authorities are reviewing both accounts and will act as per the law. Officials noted the incident highlights the dangers faced by election workers who go door to door during SIR. The exercise will end with the final electoral roll publication on February 28.
