Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant-Governor Manoj Sinha announced the reopening of 14 tourist spots in the Union Territory on February 16, 2026. These spots were closed after the tragic Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists. The administration had shut nearly 50 tourist places as a safety precaution. In a statement on X, the Lieutenant-Governor's office said, "After a thorough security review and discussions, I have ordered the reopening of more tourist spots in the Kashmir and Jammu divisions, which were temporarily closed as a precautionary measure." This latest move raises the total reopened tourist spots to 26 since 12 spots were reopened on September 26, 2025. The Lieutenant-Governor shared a detailed list: "Eleven tourist spots in the Kashmir Division – Yousmarg, Doodhpathri, Dandipora Park in Kokernag, Peer Ki Gali, Dubjan and Padpawan in Shopian, Astanpora, Tulip Garden in Srinagar, Thajwas Glacier, Hung Park in Ganderbal, and Wullar and Watlab in Baramulla – are to be reopened immediately." He also named three spots reopening in the Jammu Division: "Devi Pindi in Reasi, Mahu Mangat in Ramban, and Mughal Maidan in Kishtwar will reopen immediately." Further, the Lieutenant-Governor said, "Three sites in the Kashmir Division – Gurez, Athwatoo and Bangus – and one site in the Jammu Division – Ramkund in Ramban – will be reopened once the snow is cleared."
