At least two people have died and three others are critically injured after a mass shooting at a high school ice hockey game in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The suspected gunman also died, likely from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves said on Monday. "It appears that this was a targeted event; that it may be a family dispute," Chief Goncalves added, without sharing further details on the suspect or victims. The first emergency call came in at 2:28 pm local time. Video footage shows a rapid burst of about 13 gunshots over six seconds, followed by another shot eleven seconds later from outside the camera view. The shooting occurred at the Dennis M Lynch Arena. Spectators and players dropped to the floor, sought cover, and fled toward exits. Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien said, "What should have been a joyful occasion, with dozens of families, students, and supporters gathered to celebrate Senior Night … was instead marked by violence and fear. Our prayers go out to the victims, their families, and everyone impacted by this devastating incident." The FBI's Boston Division has deployed agents to assist in the investigation, according to FBI Director Kash Patel on X. This shooting follows another attack about two months ago at Brown University nearby, which killed two students and injured nine others. Pawtucket is the fourth-largest city in Rhode Island with about 75,000 people, located near Providence and along the Massachusetts border.
