At least 175 people, mostly children, became ill after eating contaminated food at a fair in Dwarka village, Palamu district, Jharkhand. The incident happened on Sunday night, February 15, 2026, during a Mahashivratri event. Palamu Civil Surgeon Dr. Anil Kumar Shrivastav confirmed the illness was due to suspected food poisoning. Patients showed symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. Initially, 175 patients were admitted to the Panki Community Health Centre (CHC). Now, only 22 patients remain under treatment. Dr. Shrivastav said, "The initial symptoms indicate food poisoning. The exact cause will only be ascertained after the investigation reports come." The health department sent extra medicines and medical staff to treat the affected, especially children who are being closely monitored. The civil surgeon added, "I have instructed the doctors to ensure proper treatment for the patients and make sure medicines, beds, and medical staff are available as required."
