Nepal Political Parties Start Campaigning for March 5 General Elections

Political parties in Nepal started their election campaigns on Monday for the general elections set on March 5. The Election Commission allowed campaigning after restrictions ended Sunday night. Candidates began visiting homes, holding public meetings, and organizing rallies. The commission fixed campaign dates from February 16 to March 2. Activities include public meetings, rallies, processions, corner meetings, and loudspeaker use. Campaigning must stop by midnight on March 2, 48 hours before voting. Nepal has 18,903,689 eligible voters. This includes 915,119 new voters added since the last election in 2022. The Lower House of Parliament has 275 members. Of these, 165 are elected directly by first past the post (FPTP). The remaining 110 are chosen through proportional voting.
