Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar issued a strong warning to youths involved in illegal acts for social media attention on February 17, 2026. This came after a video showed two young men allegedly displaying narcotic substances before a deity during Mahashivratri celebrations. Mr. Sajjanar stated that offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act) bring severe penalties, including imprisonment. He warned, "Once the provisions of the Act are invoked, the legal consequences can be long-term and life-altering." Sharing the video on X, he appealed to youth not to risk their future for fleeting fame. He stressed that drug-related offences "would not be taken lightly and that strict legal action would follow against those responsible." He also urged young users to use social media for creativity and positive expression, not to promote unlawful behaviour or substance abuse.
