Qatar has announced shorter work hours for government employees during Ramadan. The Cabinet's General Secretariat issued Circular No. (1) of 2026. Public sector workers will now work only five hours a day, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Employees may start as late as 10:00 am if they complete the full five hours and work continuity is maintained. The circular also allows up to 30% of staff to work remotely, prioritizing Qatari mothers and people with disabilities. However, this depends on service needs. Working hours in the health and education sectors will be set separately by the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. Ramadan is expected to begin on Wednesday or Thursday, based on moon sighting.
