The Ernakulam Rural police are tightening rules for landowners renting to migrant labourers in Perumbavoor. They plan to instruct property owners to install CCTV cameras and ensure tenants have valid identity proofs. This step targets ongoing law and order problems in suburban neighborhoods, especially at Kandanthara, known as 'Bhai Colony'. Police are concerned about drug peddling and related crimes linked to the migrant population there. A meeting with senior police officers is scheduled for Wednesday where landowners will get detailed instructions. This is part of a larger strategy after police raids recently uncovered several drug cases and prevented possible local vs migrant conflicts. "Our preliminary assessment is that the recent interventions have had an immediate impact on the ground. However, a detailed review will be conducted only after a few weeks," a senior police officer said. The police emphasize CCTV use as a key tool. "We are laying stress on CCTV coverage because several issues in Kandanthara area came to light earlier only because a few building owners had installed cameras on their premises," an officer explained. Landowners will be warned about legal consequences if crimes occur in their buildings, aiming for a safer community.
