February 18, 2026
Telangana IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu announced on Tuesday that the state wants to turn Hyderabad into a global centre for Life Sciences innovation. Speaking at BioAsia, he highlighted measures under the Telangana Next-Gen Life Sciences Policy (2026-2030), launched last month. The state aims to attract $25 billion in investments and create five lakh new jobs by 2030. The policy targets placing Telangana among the world's top three Life Sciences clusters by the decade's end. The government plans to shift from manufacturing to research, innovation, and advanced drug discovery. Mr. Sridhar Babu said, "Telangana is ready to collaborate with global industry leaders to shape the next phase of Life Sciences innovation." The state is building a future-ready workforce via institutes like Telangana School of Life Sciences and Young India Skills University, focusing on mRNA technology, gene editing, and AI-driven drug discovery. He invited global firms to explore opportunities in AI-based drug discovery, biologics manufacturing, precision medicine, computational biology, and Bio-Manufacturing 4.0. Telangana is also developing Hyderabad as a global medical tourism hub. The Genome Valley expansion is underway, covering 100 acres in its fourth phase. Plans are in place to set up pharma clusters of around 2,000 acres each in 3-4 locations, with land acquisition ongoing. Road infrastructure has begun for the Green Pharma City project, where 17 anchor investors have pledged ₹20,000 crore investments. These initiatives aim to boost Telangana’s position in the global life sciences arena.
