Hamas has urged President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace” to force Israel to stop killing Palestinians in Gaza and respect the October 2025 truce. The group says more than 600 Palestinians have died and 1,600 were wounded since the ceasefire began. Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said, "The war of genocide against the Strip is still ongoing – through killing, displacement, siege, and starvation – which has not stopped until this very moment." The controversial peace board, chaired by Trump, will hold its first meeting in Washington, DC on Thursday. Hamas called on the board to help govern Gaza and start rebuilding the war-damaged territory. Qassem demanded, "We call for lifting the siege on Gaza and opening the crossings, and not being content with the partial and minimal opening … and the accompanying violations by the occupation against travelers." He also warned, "We warn against the [Israeli] occupation using this council as a cover to continue the war on Gaza and to prevent reconstruction." Recent Israeli attacks include shelling in Gaza City’s Tuffah neighbourhood and machine-gun fire in Khan Younis. Israeli forces also targeted civilians with drones and detained fishermen off Gaza’s coast. Residential demolitions continue in the north and south. Meanwhile, Israel severely restricts the entry of aid and blocks thousands of sick Palestinians from medical treatment abroad. UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said less than 60 percent of vital aid from Egypt is reaching Gaza. He added, "Humanitarian movements that require coordination with Israeli authorities also continue to face obstacles." The Board of Peace was launched by Trump at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2025. Initially meant to oversee Gaza’s truce and reconstruction, it has expanded to address global conflicts, raising concerns about its role as a potential rival to the United Nations.
