YouTube reported a temporary global outage on Tuesday caused by a problem with its recommendation system. This glitch stopped videos from showing across YouTube platforms including YouTube.com, the app, YouTube Music, Kids, and TV. The issue has now been fixed. At peak disruption, Downdetector recorded over 320,000 user reports of problems in the US alone. Other countries affected included India, Britain, Australia, and Mexico. Downdetector collects these reports from users, so actual numbers may differ. YouTube is a giant platform with over 2.5 billion viewers worldwide by early 2025. More than 100 million users subscribe to its Music and Premium services. Google says people watch over a billion hours of YouTube daily on TVs and upload over 500 hours of video every minute. Google's $1.65 billion purchase of YouTube in 2006 combined search and video sharing to create a powerful platform loved by many.
