PESHAWAR: Two officials were martyred and two others injured after militants attacked Yarik police station and a customs office in Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday, police said. Attackers opened fire with automatic weapons on the police station and nearby customs office along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) route. The martyred officials were customs official Israr Khan and police constable Mohammad Bilal. The injured, Hazrat Umar and Khayal Mohammad, were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital’s trauma centre and are being treated. Police said attackers also fired at passenger buses on the CPEC route, causing panic. During the assault, a customs vehicle was set ablaze. Security forces returned fire, forcing the attackers to flee. A large police team arrived soon after and began a search operation nearby. Investigations are ongoing, with efforts to catch those responsible. Earlier this month, four policemen, including an SHO, were martyred in a militant attack in Paniala's Wanda Budh area of Dera Ismail Khan. On January 24, an explosion, suspected to be a suicide attack, killed five people including a peace committee leader and injured 10 during a wedding ceremony in the district.
