Ramadan 1447 Begins February 18 in UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar after Moon Sighting
February 18, 2026
Religious leaders in the Middle East have confirmed that Wednesday, February 18, 2026, is the first day of Ramadan 1447 AH. This announcement came after verified crescent moon sightings. The United Arab Emirates' Presidential Court confirmed the sighting, officially marking the start of fasting and spiritual activities. Saudi Arabia and Qatar also declared February 18 as the first day of Ramadan, staying true to traditional lunar methods. Some countries might start fasting a day later, depending on their own moon sightings.
In the UAE, the day began before sunrise. Residents observed the pre-dawn meal, known as Suhoor, before starting the fast. The first Iftar, or fast-breaking time, is at 6:18 PM. Authorities warned drivers to be patient during the evening rush hour, which runs from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, as many head home to break their fast with dates and Arabic coffee. Both public and private sectors have shortened work hours to allow families to gather for Iftar.
Ramadan nights are lively too. After the Isha prayer at 7:32 PM, mosques across the country will host Taraweeh prayers, special nightly prayers during Ramadan. From the majestic Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi to smaller neighborhood mosques in Dubai, the mood will be peaceful and united. Meanwhile, malls and Ramadan tents will stay open late, mixing worship and celebration until early Thursday hours.
