The Aided Higher Secondary Teachers’ Association (AHSTA) has demanded Kerala's Education Department cancel its recent order. The order requires school principals, who serve as chief superintendents during exams, to oversee the security of question papers during the day, including holidays. Kerala’s public exams for higher secondary classes are set to run from March 5 to March 28. Question papers will be sent to schools starting February 25. The order, issued by N.S.K. Umesh, Director of General Education, allows office assistants, clerks, and lab assistants to act as watchmen at night. However, during daytime and holidays, chief superintendents must directly handle question paper security. Additionally, all exam sites must have 24-hour CCTV surveillance. AHSTA president S. Manoj stated, "School principals, who also assume the charge of the chief superintendents, will be forced to come to the schools even on Sundays." He added that principals appointed in unaided schools will have to travel to unfamiliar places during the day. Mr. Manoj called the order "insulting" to school principals, who lead their institutions. He said, "If the government has no other options to ensure the security of question papers, it should hire security guards from approved security agencies for the job."
