Ramzan fasts will begin on Thursday, February 19, 2026, across India. The crescent moon marking the start of the holy month was sighted on Wednesday, February 18, in various parts of the country. Shahi Imam of Chandni Chowk's Fatehpuri mosque, Maulana Mufti Mukarram Ahmed, announced the moon sighting and confirmed that fasting starts from February 19. Naib Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, Syed Shaban Bukhari, also declared the moon was sighted. During Ramzan, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk for 30 days. Every evening, special prayers called Taraweeh are held in mosques where the entire Quran is recited. These prayers continue till the next moon sighting that marks Eid. Mufti Mukarram has urged the Muslim community to "pray as much as possible for the well-being of the 140 crore people of the country."
