The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has launched a cutting-edge ‘Infrared Road Repairing Mobile Machine,’ called the 'Road Doctor,' to repair potholes and uneven roads in the city while lowering pollution. This new machine cost ₹1.48 crore and was bought using grants from the 15th Finance Commission. Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath, East MLA Gadde Rammohan, and other VMC officials flagged off the machine at Guru Nanak Colony. Mr. Sivanath said the machine is part of the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) for Vijayawada and will significantly improve roads and reduce pollution. According to the VMC press note, the infrared machine cuts carbon emissions by up to 98% because it avoids the traditional method of heating tar at very high temperatures. The MP added, "While the city was sanctioned a grant of ₹25 crore under the NCAP, proposals have been sent seeking an increase in the grants to ₹32 crore and NCAP officials have promised to do so." Mr. Sivanath also said that with more machines like this, the city can enhance road conditions and sanitation. MLA Gadde Rammohan mentioned, "More such advanced machines will soon be brought to the VMC, and a system is being established to ensure that potholes are repaired in 15 minutes." Additional Commissioner (Projects) D. Chandrasekhar, Chief Engineer (In-charge) P. Satyakumari, Superintending Engineer (Works) V. Chandrasekhar, Executive Engineer G. Samrajyam, and other officials joined the launch event. This new technology marks a big step in making Vijayawada's roads safer and cleaner.
