Air Force One, the US presidential jet, is getting a new paint job featuring gold, deep red, and navy blue. These colors reflect one of President Donald Trump’s favorite themes seen in the White House and his hotels. The US Air Force confirmed that repainting is happening on planes used by top officials, including First Lady Melania Trump’s aircraft, as part of regular repairs and upgrades. The new colors will also shine on a luxury Boeing 747-8i plane donated by Qatar to the presidential fleet, said an Air Force spokesperson to CBS. The traditional white, blue, and robin's egg blue look of Air Force One has been in place since the 1960s during John F. Kennedy’s presidency. President Trump had pushed for updates to the fleet during his term, but his successor Joe Biden had previously canceled a major makeover planned by Trump. However, the fresh paint jobs are underway and were first seen on model aircraft at the White House. Trump's 2024 campaign private jet, nicknamed “Trump Force One,” used this same vibrant color combination. The US Air Force says the repainting will not cause additional delays or costs. Besides the main Boeing VC-25B jet used for the president, the repaint will cover four C-32 jets used as “Air Force Two” for the vice president and the new Qatari jumbo jet. Painting on one C-32 is already complete. The Qatari Boeing 747 valued at $400 million was given as a gift to the US, with retrofit costs paid by the US government. This jumbo jet is expected to become the future Air Force One. Boeing states these planes include offices, bedrooms, kitchens that can prepare 100 meals, office space, and medical facilities to support the president during travel.
