On February 18, 2026, the Gadchiroli Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) demolished 44 Maoist monuments across the district. Around 800 men from 18 teams, including the C-60 anti-Naxal force and Bomb Detection Squad, took part in the operation. The monuments were spread in remote forest areas under 15 police posts including Pengunda, Kawande, and Tumarkothi, known Maoist strongholds. Eighteen monuments were removed in Etapalli, 17 in Hedri, five in Bhamragad, two in Jimlagatta, and one each in Dhanora and Pendhari. Superintendent of Police Nilotpal said this is part of ongoing efforts to remove Maoist infrastructure and that insurgent activities have lessened due to sustained police campaigns. He added, "The Gadchiroli Police is committed to creating a safe environment for citizens. The demolition of these symbols of violence is intended to reinforce that commitment and build trust among the villagers." The drive was guided by Additional Superintendents of Police M. Ramesh (Operations), Kartik Madheera, and Gokul Raj G. (Administration), along with Deputy Superintendent Vishal Nagargoje. This operation highlights Gadchiroli's new focus on development and security after years of insurgency. Police have urged locals not to fall for Maoist propaganda and to support peace efforts.
