China has widened its anti-corruption campaign to focus on so-called "quasi-naked officials." These are officials whose children live overseas, while their spouses remain in China. According to a Communist Party insider speaking anonymously, this group is now under stricter surveillance and must report their overseas connections promptly. Since early last year, government bodies and state-owned enterprises have been inspected to review the overseas ties of top officials and executives. The Central Organisation Department, the Party's personnel body, conducted a nationwide survey in early 2023 to analyze these overseas links. Some officials deemed to have suspicious overseas connections have lost chances for promotions or jobs. This move aims to tighten control over officials with foreign family ties as part of the Party's broader crackdown on corruption.
