Year of the Fire Horse Begins: What to Expect from This Rare Lunar Event
February 19, 2026
The Lunar New Year welcomes the Year of the Fire Horse, a rare event occurring only once every 60 years. This year pairs the horse's lively, independent nature with the strong fire element, creating a unique zodiac sign with high energy and intensity.
The Chinese zodiac cycles through 12 animals yearly, combined with five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. These create a 60-year cycle, with each year assigned an animal and element.
Experts say people born in horse years are strong, alert, and impatient. Adding fire boosts their passion, energy, and leadership. The last Fire Horse year was in 1966, a time of major upheaval.
This year is expected to bring quick and powerful changes globally and personally. Xiaohuan Zhao, a Chinese studies professor, warns: "heightened energy needs to be managed wisely." Staying calm before big decisions is key.
Feng shui consultant Grace Niu compares the year's power to a wildfire: "immense passion ... must be directed or it can burn through everything – including themselves." Pan Wang of UNSW notes the year may bring instability and rapid growth.
Industries like technology, finance, energy, and entertainment may feel this fast pace more. Zodiac signs such as rat, rabbit, and ox could face stronger effects because of energy clashes.
To navigate the year, experts say balance is vital. Sydney feng shui expert Mina Zheng recommends drinking plenty of water and eating earth-based foods like potatoes to offset the fire’s heat. Wearing cool-colored clothes like blue, white, silver, and gold also helps.
Pan Wang advises not to fear the Fire Horse year: "It can bring extreme success or challenges. Embrace the challenge and find balance!"
