Get ready, Ranchi! The city is turning into a cleanliness battleground as the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) rolls out a tough new rule to fight open garbage dumping. Starting from September 15, shop owners, hotels, and restaurants caught tossing waste openly will cough up penalties reaching Rs 5,000. But wait, if they keep breaking the rules, their trade licences may be snatched away and their shops sealed tight! This no-nonsense move came from a power-packed review meeting led by RMC administrator Sushant Gaurav. He gathered senior officials, zonal supervisors, sanitation workers, and waste experts to plan a mega cleanliness drive for the festive period from Durga Puja to Chhath. Why? Because the city will be bustling with huge crowds celebrating together, and nobody wants garbage ruins around. Gaurav stressed the importance of quick action, saying, “Citizen complaints must be resolved on priority and no lapses in sanitation will be tolerated. Supervisors will be evaluated based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), with rewards for efficient work and strict action against negligence.” Sounds like a clean sweep is on its way! But it’s not just about penalties. All businesses must now keep two bins – one for wet waste and one for dry – to make garbage management easier. Plus, special campaigns will zoom in on pandal areas. Tasks include drain cleaning, spraying bleaching powder, fixing streetlights, fogging to chase away mosquitoes, and even catching stray dogs. Before Chhath, all ponds will sparkle after being cleaned with heavy-duty machines. “RMC is committed to providing citizens with clean and safe facilities, especially during festivals when lakhs of people gather in public places. Our teams will work with renewed focus to ensure a hygienic and festive Ranchi,” added Gaurav, hoping for a spotless city. But not everyone is cheering. Shopkeeper Ramesh Kumar near Main Road warned, “Penalties are fine, but unless the corporation ensures regular garbage collection, the problem will continue.” Resident Rina Murmu from Kokar also doubted, saying, "RMC always carries out such campaigns through words than action.” Pinky Sharma of Peace Road said, “Our locality has been neglected throughout the year. Hope, RMC pays attention to the inner lanes of the city as well.” Will Ranchi rise to the cleanliness challenge this festive season or will the garbage menace continue? Only time will tell, but one thing is clear – RMC is rolling up its sleeves for a cleaner, fresher celebration!
