Nepal's Parliament Dissolved! Political Storm Breaks as Parties and Lawyers Cry 'Unconstitutional!'

Nepal is buzzing with political chaos after President Ram Chandra Paudel decided to dissolve the parliament! This sudden move came right after a cabinet meeting led by interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki. The president's office said the parliament was dissolved effective 11 pm on September 12, 2025, and set the next elections for March 21, 2026. But wait, not everyone is thrilled! Nepal’s biggest political group, the Nepali Congress (NC), sounded the alarm. They called the move "against the spirit of our Constitution and the interpretation of the Supreme Court." The NC said this act "jeopardises the democratic achievements" of Nepal. NC General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma warned, "Any breach of the Constitution raises serious questions." Shankar Pokharel, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist or CPN-UML), voiced his worry, calling the decision "ironically concerning." He pointed out how parties that once opposed parliament dissolution are now suddenly supporting it. "We must remain vigilant," he said. The CPN (Maoist Centre) also slammed the decision. Party spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota said dissolving the House goes against Nepal’s constitutional framework. Adding fuel to the fire, the Nepal Bar Association (NBA), the top lawyers' group, labeled the move "arbitrary" and a serious blow to democracy. They stated, "The President's decision to dissolve the House of Representatives also contradicts the Supreme Court's earlier ruling on the reinstatement of Parliament." NBA president Vijay Prasad Mishra and general secretary Kedar Prasad Koirala warned this step weakens democracy and threatens the federal structure of Nepal. They urged everyone to resist any "regressive steps" and support protests against this sudden and shocking dissolution. In Kathmandu, security tightened with barbed wires outside the President’s house as protests against the government swell. Clearly, Nepal’s political drama is reaching new heights, with democracy and constitution facing a big test!
