Arch Manning, the shining No. 7 quarterback for Texas, had a rollercoaster day on the field on Saturday! Known as a top Heisman Trophy hopeful, Manning struggled to connect with his receivers, completing only 9 out of 22 passes for 97 yards through three quarters. Ouch! He even threw 10 straight incomplete passes and an interception in the end zone, making the home crowd restless enough to boo him briefly in the first half. "I’ve got to play better," Manning admitted after the game. "I’m frustrated. I know I’m better than this. It’s going to be hard to sleep tonight." But wait! The Longhorns still won the game 27-10 against UTEP, and Manning played a big role with his legs. He dashed for two first-half touchdowns, a 2-yard run in the first quarter and a 5-yard sprint just before halftime, giving Texas a strong 14-3 lead. In the fourth quarter, he finally found some comfort in the passing game, throwing a short touchdown to Ryan Wingo to seal the victory. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian stood firmly behind his player, saying, "I feel like we’ve done enough with him to have a pretty good understanding of who he is as a player and what he’s capable of. I know there’s a lot of football in him that’s high level football." While Manning struggled, Texas’s defense shined bright. They held UTEP Miners to just 259 total yards and allowed only one touchdown all game. Safety Michael Taaffe noticed the booing but reminded everyone, "The fans are the ones who make it go." So, even with some bumps, Texas Longhorns marched on victorious with Arch Manning still carrying their hopes!
