Denmark Ups Military Might! Long-Range Weapons & $9.2 Billion Air Defence to Face Russia Threat

September 17, 2025

Denmark is gearing up its defense like never before! Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced on September 17, 2025, that Denmark will buy long-range precision weapons to stand strong against the growing threat from Russia. Even though the Nordic nation faces no immediate attack risk, the message is clear: be prepared! For years, Denmark cut its military budget, but Russia’s 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine changed everything. Now, Denmark has boosted its military spending to fix weak spots and keep Europe safe. Ms. Frederiksen told the press, "There is no doubt that Russia will be a threat to Europe and Denmark for years to come," but assured that currently, Denmark is safe from direct attacks. Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen revealed that the new weapons could include powerful missiles and drones that can hit far into enemy areas. However, he didn’t reveal the exact cost or the list of weapons yet. Big numbers are flying! Last week, Denmark declared it would spend 58 billion Danish crowns, about $9.20 billion, on European-made air defence systems – their biggest military purchase ever! Mr. Poulsen explained, "The war in Ukraine shows the importance of having the ability to strike back or strike deep, as well as having an integrated layered air defence together with ground-based air defense." So, Denmark is not just building a fence; it’s building a fortress in the sky and beyond. With long-range missiles, drones, and top-notch air defense, the country aims to stand tall and ready while warning the world that the Russian threat is no joke. Europe, watch out – Denmark means business!
