DK Shivakumar Sets November Deadline to Fix Bengaluru Potholes, Crackdown on Waste and Encroachments Begins

September 18, 2025

Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar is serious about cleaning up Bengaluru’s roads! On Wednesday, he announced a final deadline for contractors to fill all potholes by November. Why? To ensure smooth traffic and a spotless city! "Contractors have been given a final deadline to fill the potholes within November to resolve the problem. Since a clean Bengaluru and smooth traffic are our goals, GBA will provide relief from potholes as soon as possible," Shivakumar shared in a post on 'X'. Earlier, on September 14, he revealed a major push for road repair with a whopping Rs 1,100 crore set aside for road repair and construction projects across the city. The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) is ready to roll! But that’s not all. Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Rajendra Cholan took action on the ground. Inspecting several areas in CV Raman Nagar division on Wednesday, he found damaged footpaths, pothole-filled streets, piles of uncollected waste, and poor solid waste management. He was not amused! Cholan warned, "Engineers and officials who fail to act responsibly will be suspended." That’s a strict warning for all those dragging their feet! He also ordered notices to be sent to owners of a vacant plot on Jeevan Bima Nagar Main Road, where heaps of waste were dumped. Unauthorized sheds built on footpaths and roads must go, and the guilty will be fined. The Commissioner emphasized removing all encroachments from pedestrian paths, making way for safer, cleaner walkways. To wipe out black spots—those ugly, dirty areas—the Commissioner wants a ward-wise list and cleanliness campaigns to turn these eyesores into attractive public spaces. Plus, tight measures will stop anyone from dumping garbage there again. Cholan also asked officials to list all roads dug up by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and those needing manhole repairs. Next step? A joint meeting with BWSSB officials to fix these problems. With this powerful push from Shivakumar and Cholan, Bengaluru is gearing up for cleaner roads, smoother traffic, and a healthier city environment. The countdown to a pothole-free and sparkling Bengaluru has begun!
