In a vibrant boost to India-EU relations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen reaffirmed their dedication to conclude the long-anticipated India-European Union free trade agreement by December this year. The cheerful chat took place when von der Leyen called up Modi to wish him on his 75th birthday! Modi warmly thanked the EU for adopting a fresh strategic agenda aimed at deepening and expanding cooperation. "Always a pleasure to speak to President Ursula von der Leyen. Thank you for your warm birthday greetings. Delighted to know about the 'New Strategic EU-India Agenda' adopted today," Modi tweeted. He added, "India is ready to take the India-EU relationship to the next level. It is our shared commitment, shared goal, and shared responsibility." The new agenda focuses on better coordination in key areas, including security, signaling a power-packed partnership ahead. Both leaders echoed a strong commitment to quickly and peacefully resolve the Ukraine conflict, underscoring their shared global responsibility. An official statement explained that Modi and von der Leyen welcomed efforts to boost the strategic India-EU partnership for mutual growth and tackling worldwide challenges. They confirmed their firm resolve to wrap up Free Trade Agreement talks by December. The 13th round of these negotiations just took place in New Delhi.
